The Power Of Speech

This is a short time based poem where I used words from past presidential State of the Union Addresses. Larger words mark more frequently used words from speech to speech. The words fly from the left of the screen to the right, slowly darkening the “sky” of the screen as they accumulate, as history accumulates. As time progresses (from the inception of the Union to the present) one can track American history–and power–through the slight change of words used. Many “themes” (as you might guess) reappear as the words cycle by. A distorted Star Spangled Banner plays in the background. Although there is no web version I do have applications for Windows if anyone is interested.

(This idea is indebted to a much more accomplished “artwork”–or data visualization–by Brad Borevitz called State of the Union. I tried to find a different form for similar ideas.)
